All Wisconsin students (grades 9-12) are qualified to sign up inside a Senior High School Essay Contest carried out yearly through the Wisconsin Labor History Society. The highschool students are requested to create an essay of roughly 750 words around the following theme: “Unions happen to be vital that you my loved ones and my community because …” and as much as eight cash awards are granted to find the best. The awards includes one $500 first-place prize, one $300 second-place prize, one $200 third-place prize, and as much as five $100 awards for honorable mention. Four students win 2014-2015 Essay Contest

Because of the support in our people, local labor unions and local authorities through the condition, increasingly more Wisconsin students are attaining curiosity about labor unions as well as their history.

Four Wisconsin students won cash awards within the WLHS Annual Labor History Essay contest for 2014-15. Cash awards varying from $100 to $500 are supplied every year to find the best essays by Wisconsin students covering labor history.

Those who win were:

ALYSSA NIEBUHR, twelfth grade at DeForest HS, first, $500.

BETHANY ZIELINSKI, twelfth grade at Cudahy HS, second, $300.

CASIE McCALLISTER, ninth grade at Merrill HS, 3rd (tie), $200.

NATALIE BURGESS, twelfth grade at Holmen HS, 3rd (tie), $200.

Funds to maintain the money awards within the National History Day competitions as well as in the essay contest are supplied by contributions to some designated “Labor History within the Schools Fund” by many people local unions and labor local authorities, in addition to people.

The Society’s special Legacy Fund offers annual Frank P. Zeidler Academic Honours of $500 and $1Thousand for research papers, correspondingly, by undergraduate and graduated pupils. 2010 champion within the graduate level was John Ertl of Park Falls, who's presently students in the College of Massachusetts – Amherst.
